Trent University launches its 59th annual United Way fundraising campaign with a goal of $120,000.
Trent University is launching its 59th annual United Way campaign, showcasing its long-standing commitment to supporting our communities in Peterborough and the Durham region.
This year, faculty, staff, and retirees are being challenged to raise $120,000 and maintain our status as the largest corporate campaign in Peterborough. All funds raised through Trent's workplace campaign are invested in the local communities, supporting essential services, programs, and tools to address poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, mental health challenges, food insecurity, addiction, and unemployment.
"The annual United Way campaign is just one of the many ways the Trent team supports our communities. Thanks to the generosity of Trent's faculty, staff and retirees in Peterborough and Durham, we're able to drive positive change through the United Way," said Alison Scholl, senior manager, Community & External Relations. "I encourage everyone to consider pledge towards our goal to help Trent increase our impact."
Employees can donate online using Trent's private and secure @ work donation portal, or by postcard pledge form.
All participating employees and retirees will be automatically entered into at least one of our donor prize draws, generously sponsored by Trent Parking Services and former alumni engagement and services director, Tony Storey 71.
Dine & Make a Difference
The United Way Ambassador team is partnering with Trent Food Services to host the annual United Way Campaign Kick-Off BBQ, on Wednesday, September 25 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Upper Bata Podium. Enjoy a hamburger, hot dog, or veggie burger, with chips & pop (gluten-free options available) for just $10. Every dollar raised during this event directly contributes to our workplace campaign.
Bridging the Gap: Trent's Commitment
In April 2024, United Way Peterborough released "The Gap: Income (In)Adequacy Report 2024", highlighting inadequate support within Ontario's social safety net. The report reveals how the rising costs of living, insufficient wages, and inadequate social assistance funding put individuals, families, and communities at an increased risk of falling into the cycle of poverty.
"''The Gap' report, makes it clear that our social safety net is struggling to keep up with demand, leaving many without the supports they desperately need. This shortfall not only limits the capacity of these organizations to help their clients but also affects the overall well-being of our community," said Dr. Rona Jualla van Oudenhoven, director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at Trent, and United Way campaign cabinet member. "To mitigate these constraints, we must stand united. By coming together, we can strengthen our community and co-create a more equitable and inclusive society that allows everyone the opportunity to achieve their full potential."
