MATCHING GIFT IGNITES MOMENTUM ON GIVING TUESDAY
Trent community raises over $500,000 for students' experience and academic achievement

December 9, 2024

The Trent community came together in an inspiring display of support for Giving Tuesday, the world's largest generosity movement. On December 3, the Trent family rallied to support the University ensuring that every student, regardless of their circumstance, has the opportunity to thrive.

The impact of this collective effort has provided a transformative $505,672 aiding students' support, spaces and experiential learning at Trent.

"We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support from our Trent community. Your contributions are making a tangible difference, empowering our students to reach their full potential," says Sherry Booth '98, associate vice president Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement. "Together, we are fostering an environment where every student can thrive and succeed. A heartfelt thank you for your generosity."

Areas of support included:

  • Gifts to the Trent Fund,
  • Heritage projects,
  • Indigenous student support through First People House of Learning and the assistance fund,
  • Nursing Experiential Learning and research support,
  • Excalibur team endowments, and
  • The Durham Emergency Student Fund.

This support will significantly enhance the ability to provide comprehensive educational opportunities, foster cultural preservation, and ensure student success across diverse programs and initiatives.

A Match to Make a Difference

Giving Tuesday is the first step of the University's holiday campaign, which raises funds and awareness for the Trent Fund. This year, the campaign saw inspiring momentum, thanks to the generosity of the Trent community and the $50,000 Trent Fund matching challenge by Momentous campaign leaders Gavin Marshall '76 and Linda Schuyler '18 (hon). We are pleased to announce, thanks to Giving Tuesday efforts, the holiday campaign match has reached the halfway mark.

"I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire Trent community for their incredible support. Your generosity, combined with our matching gift initiative, has doubled the impact of Trent Fund donations," says Momentous campaign leader Gavin Marshall '76 (Lady Eaton College). "This support is making a significant difference in the lives of Trent students, providing them the opportunity to flourish, achieve their dreams and build better tomorrows for all of us."

A Time to Give

As Trent University celebrates the success of this year's Giving Tuesday campaign, the community's collective generosity continues to spark hope and ignite momentum for future generations. There is still time to support student success. Gifts made on or before December 31 will still be matched - it's not too late to support Trent students.
