University College of the North (UCN) is excited to announce the UCN Linkages Thompson Conference, scheduled for February 25-27, 2025, at the Thompson Regional Community Centre.
This year's 'Reimagine the North' theme will explore Northern Manitoba's opportunities, resource use, and economic reconciliation. Keynotes include leadership expert Eric Termuende, historian Dr. Ken Coates, and Norwegian Sámi advocate Sven-Roald Nystø. Speakers from Economic Development Winnipeg, Federated Co-operatives Limited, and CEWIL Canada will also share insights, inspiring fresh ideas and meaningful discussions for the North.
"The North is changing. Linkages is about bringing people together to collaborate on what's next. It's a chance to share ideas, make connections, and think differently about what's possible for Northern Manitoba," said Doug Lauvstad, UCN President and Vice-Chancellor.
Attendees can participate in a blanket exercise before the conference begins on Monday, Feb. 24. The week will conclude with a dedicated "Mining Day" on Thursday, Feb. 27, in partnership with the Province of Manitoba. Attendees will hear from northern leaders, including an Indigenous Nations Chief panel and a Ministers and Mayors panel.
Linkages Thompson will feature a Networking Dinner. Participants can connect, share a meal catered by Flin Flon's Aurora + Pine Bistro, and engage with government members and local leaders. This arrangement will mix up attendees, allowing them to build new connections and take part in meaningful conversations.
UCN Linkages is a recurring economic development conference. UCN hosts two annual conferences: one in The Pas and one in Thompson. These conferences serve as catalysts for creative, critical thinking, and collaborative conversations about northern economic development and the future.
UCN invites all interested individuals, students, organizations, and stakeholders to attend the UCN Linkages Thompson Conference on February 25-27. Registration is free at ucnlinkages.ca.
