A new season of Third Age Learning at Kwantlen (TALK) starts on Feb. 18, with registration now open to a variety of stimulating classes for adults over 50.
TALK partners with Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) every year to provide a range of short and informative participatory courses. Course are led by community volunteers, including KPU instructors, and are offered either online or in-person at KPU's Surrey, Richmond, Langley and Tech campuses.
"We are proud of the variety of courses we provide each semester. There is something for everyone," says Jean Garnett, TALK program chair. "TALK not only provides lifelong learning, but the opportunity to expand your circle of acquaintances, and even give back by volunteering some of your time and talents."
The new season is offering a variety of courses on topics such as "Internet Safety and Security," "Women in Science," "How Climate Change is Affecting Sea Ice," and "Happiness and the Human Brain." A number of field trips are also planned, with visits to Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria, the Museum of Anthropology at University of B.C. and more.
TALK is also welcoming futurist Jim Bottomley to KPU Richmond for a presentation on fears of the future and stress related to change.
"We're in a new economy with maximum change and maximum stress," says Bottomley. "All change is both good and bad, but working as a futurist across sectors over 30 years, I've learned that there are ways to overcome divergent views by focusing on the underlying needs that link us all."
This event will be held on Saturday March 1 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public, but guests are asked to register in advance.
TALK's annual membership fee is $10, with an additional fee applied to most courses. To learn more and to register for courses, visit kpu.ca/TALK.
