Two faculty members appointed to StFX Board of Governors

St. Francis Xavier University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Brad Long and Dr. Wendy Mackey to the StFX Board of Governors.

Dr. Long and Dr. Mackey are each appointed for a three-year term position that will begin on July 1, 2025. 

Bios for the two faculty appointees follow below.

Dr. Brad Long

Dr. Brad Long is an Associate Professor of Management in StFX's Gerald Schwartz School of Business and since 2018, he has been the inaugural John T. Sears Chair in Corporate Social Responsibility. Dr. Long's areas of specialization include business ethics, human resource management and leadership. His research has been published widely, including in the Journal of Business Ethics, Critical Perspectives on International Business, and Journal of Organizational Change Management, as well as in several teaching cases published in books and case repositories. In 2009, Dr. Long received StFX's Outstanding Teaching Award. He is also active in many roles on the StFX campus, serving on departmental and university committees, as well as the academic union, StFXAUT, for which he has served as president, chief negotiator and other executive positions. Dr. Long currently coordinates the Schwartz School's efforts to uphold commitment to the UN PRME initiative. He also served for five years as department chair from 2015-2020. Dr. Long maintains an active role as an advisor and supervisor for students in honours theses, case competitions and a summer research internship program which he created, funds, and manages in cooperation with the Coady Institute. Dr. Long joined StFX in 2002 after eight years in the private sector in progressively senior management positions in industries ranging from aerospace to information technology to consulting. At the beginning of 2021, he was appointed to the Nova Scotia Labour Board as an employee representative. Dr. Long's degrees include a PhD (Management), MBA, and BA (Hons) and he maintains the CPA (CMA) professional designation in Nova Scotia.

Dr. Wendy Mackey

Dr. Wendy Mackey is serving in the role of Associate Professor of Culturally Relevant Pedagogy and Leadership within the Faculty of Education at StFX. She is a graduate of StFX, completing her second Master of Education degree in 2013 and her PhD in 2021. For her dissertation, Dr. Mackey was awarded the Governor General's Gold Medal in graduate research. She coordinates the Culturally Relevant Pedagogy Master of Education program. Her research encompasses educational leadership, educational change, culturally relevant pedagogy, anti-racist education, sensemaking, and decolonizing education. Dr. Mackey continues to have an active in role on the StFX campus in departmental and university committees. She has served as the Culturally Relevant Pedagogy chair for StFX University and coordinates the Black nursing student success program. In both roles, Dr. Mackey provides professional learning to faculty and staff in the areas of culturally relevant teaching and assessment and anti-racist teaching strategies. She has been a member of the University Equity committee, Frank McKenna Centre for Leadership advisory board, and is completing a third term on the University Senate. Dr. Mackey maintains an active role as an advisor and supervisor for students' graduate and undergraduate theses and supports African Nova Scotian and Black students across disciplines. Dr. Mackey's previous roles during her 30 years as an educator include working for the Halifax Regional Centre for Education serving in the roles of senior diversity advisor, supervisor of schools, elementary school principal, elementary and junior high vice principal, and music teacher.
