These students, hailing from diverse fields of study, are setting new standards of excellence and innovation.
The work of these undergraduate students reflects rigorous scholarship and critical thinking, contributing valuable insights to contemporary issues. Michele Johnson, associate dean of students at LA&PS, emphasizes the importance of recognizing these accomplishments through the annual Student Awards Ceremony, which took place in March.
"These awards are significant for us, as they allow us to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of students across the Department of Social Science," she says. "They contribute to fostering a culture of achievement and high performance within our academic community, setting a positive example for current and future students."
Marshall MacDougall (one of the winners of the Ellen Baar Award) and Professor Emeritus Carl Baar.
Brianna Garneau (winner of the David Sealy Award) and Professor Tyler Totten.
Professor Tyler Totten, Chair of the Teaching Development Committee, oversees student awards within the department and says the opportunity to celebrate student achievements, especially with their friends and families in attendance, provides a meaningful way to recognize accomplishments.
"It is truly delightful to witness the pride reflected in the faces of the friends and family who support our students."
This year, 31 awards were presented to students for their excellence in and dedication to scholarship.
Brianna Garneau, a graduate student who received the David L. J. Sealy Award, says: "Receiving the David Sealy Award was very special to me. It was also inspiring to witness the accomplishments of many students I've encountered during my years as a teaching assistant at York. Seeing familiar faces of past students, meeting their families and support systems, and hearing about their exciting new adventures will undoubtedly be a cherished memory."
