UFV welcomes Chris MacLean as Director of Enterprise Risk

Chris MacLean has joined the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) as the new director of enterprise risk.  

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is a holistic approach to identifying, assessing, and addressing risks that may affect UFV's ability to achieve its objectives. It integrates risk management across all aspects of the university, providing a unified framework to handle uncertainties.

Chris brings a wealth of experience in this realm, with more than 17 years of leadership in enterprise risk management roles, including post-secondary and the provincial government. Chris joins UFV from the University of Edinburgh and says he's keen to share his focus on design, implementation, and improvement of enterprise risk management policies and frameworks.  

"I am delighted to build on all the excellent work done before my arrival," Chris says. "In the coming weeks, I'll be reaching out to staff and faculty to help us build a shared understanding of what our risks are, so we can better meet our goals and objectives, and to refine the risk management policies and processes.  

"I aim to build an ERM framework at UFV that emphasizes collaboration and proactive decision-making, fostering a culture of preparedness, innovation and adaptability. By embracing ERM principles, we can contribute to a sustainable and secure environment that supports excellence in education, research, and community engagement." 

Chris holds a Master of Arts in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University in Victoria, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario. He is also a certified Canadian Risk Manager.  

"His skill set is vast, and ranges from emergency management to business continuity and resilience," says Nicole Adams, UFV's chief financial officer. "We look forward to Chris sharing his expertise and wealth of knowledge with the UFV community." 

Chris began his new role on April 1.
