On April 3, 2025, Polytechnique Montréal hosted a high-level delegation from AgroParisTech, consisting of Managing Director Laurent Buisson, Director of Research, Innovation and Transfer Technology Alexandre Pery, and International Relations Officer Mayra Agudelo. The meeting was organized pursuant to the collaboration agreement signed by the two institutions in 2017.

Partnering for research and teaching

This official visit by representatives of AgroParisTech, the first since 2015, provided the occasion to formalize an agreement on academic and research mobility that will enhance international learning opportunities for students from both institutions. Among other things, the agreement establishes a double-degree program that will benefit students from Polytechnique as well as AgroParisTech. The signing of this double-degree agreement is especially timely given that Polytechnique is in the process of developing an agri-food concentration within its undergraduate program in chemical engineering, including several new courses that could be on offer by fall 2026.

During their visit, the AgroParisTech delegation toured the Surface, Interface and Soft Matter Research Laboratory and met its co-director, Professor of Chemical Engineering Jason Robert Tavares, as well as the Polymer Flexible Packaging Laboratory, where they met its director, Professor Abdellah Ajji, who is also Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering.

The meeting was also an opportunity to explore new avenues of scientific and technological research collaboration between the two universities.

AgroParisTech: a major player in life sciences and the environment

Founded in 2007, AgroParisTech is a French grande école of engineering specializing in life sciences and environmental research and industry. It is a founding member and component institution of Université Paris-Saclay and a member of the ParisTech network.

AgroParisTech has five education and research departments encompassing various disciplines including mathematical modeling, economic and management science, agronomic engineering, food and bioproducts sciences, as well as life and health sciences.

Its engineering curricula are structured around four key fields of study: production, sectors and territories for sustainable development; food engineering, biomolecules and energy; engineering and health; and environmental management and engineering.
