COUNCIL OF NOVA SCOTIA UNIVERSITY PRESIDENTS
Dr. Andrew Hakin, President and Vice-Chancellor, St. Francis Xavier University Appointed Chair of CONSUP

June 17, 2025

Dr. Andrew (Andy) Hakin, President and Vice-Chancellor, St. Francis Xavier University, was appointed Chair, Council of Nova Scotia University Presidents (CONSUP) for a two-year term beginning June 11, 2025.

Dr. Kim Brooks, President and Vice-Chancellor, Dalhousie University, was appointed Vice-chair of CONSUP, also for a two-year term.

Dr. Hakin replaces David Dingwall, President and Vice-Chancellor, Cape Breton University. Mr. Dingwall completed his two-year term as CONSUP Chair, June 10.

"On behalf of my colleagues, we thank David for his dedicated service over the past two years, and we remain committed to continuing his strong advocacy for our sector during a challenging period for Nova Scotia's universities," said Dr. Hakin.

"Nova Scotia's universities, like others across Canada, are navigating an era of change, from meeting the expectations and demands of today's students and society, to unprecedented fiscal pressures. University leaders will continue to impress upon the provincial government the vital role the sector plays in driving Nova Scotia's economic and population growth, as well as the social and cultural development of our regions. Together, we can build a more resilient, innovative, and inclusive post-secondary landscape that serves students, communities, and the future of Nova Scotia."

Dr. Hakin noted that the province's universities are working to address the priorities of the provincial government, particularly Action for Health.

"Nova Scotia's universities combine for more than 300 active research projects contributing to Action for Health. In fact, 22 per cent of our annual cohort of graduates work in the health care and social assistance sector."

"CONSUP remains committed to strengthening the role of universities in shaping a stronger future for all Nova Scotians."

CONSUP is an advocacy organization that represents the interests of the province's ten universities.
