BROCK UNIVERSITY
Build ethical sales skills through new PCS course

June 30, 2025

Independent sales professionals looking for foundational knowledge in ethical selling now have a new resource to help them excel in a competitive market.

Brock University Professional and Continuing Studies (Brock PCS) has partnered with the Direct Sellers Association (DSA) of Canada to launch Fundamental Sales Skills for Direct Sellers, an educational program designed specifically for individuals who sell products and services directly to consumers.

This unique collaboration brings together Brock's academic excellence and the DSA's deep understanding of the direct selling industry to address the learning needs of a growing workforce. The program will provide practical guidance and focus on key areas, including business planning, customer engagement, ethical sales practices and compliance with industry standards.

"Brock Professional and Continuing Studies is thrilled to collaborate with the Direct Sellers Association to create a program that supports the professionalization and long-term success of direct sellers," said Barb Mercer, Associate Director, Programming for PCS. "This program is about more than just sales - it's about empowering people with the knowledge, tools and ethical foundation to build sustainable, trusted businesses."

The non-credit course is designed to be accessible and practical for those already working in the field or just starting out. It will be delivered in a flexible online format, allowing participants to learn at their own pace, from anywhere in the country.

"Education and ethical conduct are cornerstones of the direct selling business model," said Peter Maddox, President of the DSA. "Through this partnership with Brock University, we are giving direct sellers the opportunity to strengthen their business skills and reinforce the values that are essential to long-term success in this industry."

The initiative also reflects Brock's growing commitment to workforce development and its role in supporting emerging industries through accessible and responsive education.

"This is an exciting example of how higher education, specifically through continuing education units, can directly respond to the needs of modern learners and industry," said Nathan Cheney, Director, Professional and Continuing Studies. "We worked closely with DSA to ensure the content is relevant, engaging and immediately applicable for direct sellers at any stage of their business journey."
