Earlier today (July 3), the North Bay Youth Volleyball Club Jr. Lakers, Nipissing University, and Canadore College proudly celebrated the grand opening of the Education Centre Beach Volleyball Courts. The four-court facility is the result of a collaborative partnership aimed at promoting youth engagement, athlete development, and community collaboration through sport.

Located at 100 College Drive behind the R.J. Surtees Student Athletics Centre, the new courts are a vibrant addition to the university and college campus and will serve as a hub for training, competition, and recreational play.
"This is more than just a volleyball court, it's a symbol of what we can achieve when we work together as a community," said Sylvie Laperriere, President of the NBYVC Jr. Lakers. "These courts will give our young athletes a place to grow their skills, build friendships, and fall in love with the game. We're incredibly grateful to all our partners and sponsors for making this vision a reality."
The opening ceremony featured remarks from club and institutional leaders, a ceremonial first serve, and demonstrations by Jr. Lakers athletes.
"As a leader in research on youth development in sport, Nipissing University is pleased to be able to offer young athletes another space to stay actively engaged in sport," said Dr. Kevin Wamsley, President & Vice-Chancellor, Nipissing University. "The courts bring great energy to campus while supporting the development of local talent, and strengthening community connections. It's a win for sport, education, and youth engagement."
The Education Centre Beach Courts are already being actively used, with over 150 Jr. Lakers athletes registered in the summer season.
"Canadore College is proud to be a partner on this project which reflects a growing commitment to enhance sport infrastructure in our community and create inclusive spaces for youth development," said Ryan Drouin, Manager, Career Development, Sport & Wellness.
