The Woitas Centre for Inclusive Education at St. Mary's University is pleased to announce the appointment of Trisa Soroski as the inaugural Executive Director, effective July 22, 2025.
Trisa, the former Supervisor of Diverse Learning for the Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD), will step into this exciting new role that was created thanks to the legacy donation of Linda and Clayton Woitas to StMU to establish the Woitas Centre. The Centre will help address one of Alberta's most pressing priorities: training more teachers and equipping them with the knowledge and the strategies that are needed to transform classrooms across the province. The Woitas Centre will be a hub for innovation that offers specialized programming and resources for educators, administrators and families.
Trisa's qualifications include a wide range of experience in the sphere of inclusive education including teaching and delivering curriculum, working with and supporting diverse learners, and managing and directing teachers, consultants and others in producing responsive programming for student needs. Prior to her role as Supervisor at the CCSD, Trisa served as a school Principal, Teacher, Instructor and Program Designer at the University of Calgary, and as an Education Consultant.
"We are thrilled to welcome Trisa Soroski as the inaugural Executive Director of the Woitas Centre for Inclusive Education. Her deep expertise, leadership, and unwavering commitment to inclusive education will be instrumental as we build a Centre that empowers educators and transforms learning environments across Alberta. Trisa's appointment marks an exciting and foundational step in realizing the vision of the Woitas Centre," said Dr. Sandy Vanderburgh, Vice President Academic.
As the first Executive Director, Trisa plans to "provide encouragement and resources to model experiential, collaborative, and to support inclusive learning in the education program" and suggests that "this experiential approach might include the creation of a neurodiverse program for children right on campus, a place where future teachers could celebrate the unique and special gifts each child has and learn about the practical strategies these children require."
We hope you will join us in welcoming Trisa to the StMU community in July. We also would like to thank the selection committee for their time and dedication involved in the search process.
