Brock welcomes Consul General of China to campus

Strengthening ties and enhancing student success were at the centre of a recent visit to Brock University by Luo Weidong, Consul General of China in Toronto.

Brock welcomed Luo and delegates from the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Toronto to campus on Friday, Sept. 5 to learn more about the University and explore new avenues for deepening educational collaboration.

"Brock is committed to fostering impactful global relationships," said Brock President and Vice-Chancellor Lesley Rigg, who was among the leaders who welcomed the group to campus. "We look forward to collaborating with partners in China on research, academic opportunities and knowledge mobilization."

While on campus, Luo met with Brock senior leadership, faculty and students, engaging in conversations focused on cross-cultural understanding, safety and well-being, and the role of academic partnerships in shaping the future of global education.

During the visit, the Consul General expressed strong support for enhancing collaborative research, academic activities involving students and faculty, and cultural programs.

"We value Brock University's commitment to strengthening collaborations with Chinese partners and enhancing the student experience," Luo said. "I look forward to working together to further advance bilateral educational engagements."

The day also featured an event hosted by Brock International in partnership with the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Toronto with the goal of helping Chinese students at Brock to thrive both personally and academically. Topics covered during the event included safety, well-being, mental health and academic integrity.

"This visit highlighted some of the many ways Brock strives to support students and expand international educational opportunities in both Canada and China," said Arja Vainio-Mattila, Provost and Vice-President, Academic.
