MacEwan University is pleased to announce that Dr. Edvard Lorkovic has been appointed to an initial five-year term as deputy provost. He will continue to hold his concurrent faculty appointment in the Department of Humanities.
"This new administrative role was created for the unique structure of our evolving Academic Affairs portfolio, as our institution continues to grow at a remarkable pace," said Dr. Craig Monk, provost and vice-president, Academic. "Dr. Lorkovic has the background and experience to facilitate collaboration and cooperation across our faculties and schools, as well as other units led by academic associate vice-presidents. Over the course of nearly 20 years at MacEwan, he has established himself as a thoughtful teacher, a trusted colleague and a steady leader whose contributions have shaped both his discipline and the wider university."
Since arriving at MacEwan in 2006, Dr. Lorkovic has served as philosophy coordinator, chair of humanities, interim dean of arts and science and most recently interim deputy provost.
"As deputy provost, Dr. Lorkovic will work closely with me to pursue the goals of Teaching Greatness," said Dr. Monk. "During his interim appointment, he helped us focus on the measures from our institutional dashboard through which we define progress on our strategy. He will also oversee key areas rooted in the provost's office, such as athletics, academic quality assurance and faculty development, while representing the university on committees and with our external partners."
MacEwan president and vice-chancellor, Dr. Annette Trimbee, received the recommendation to appoint Dr. Lorkovic from a committee assembled earlier this year. His formal appointment will begin immediately.
