TORONTO METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY
TMU's Faculty of Science launches Canada's only Cyber Science program

October 7, 2025

Toronto Metropolitan University's (TMU) Faculty of Science is launching a new Bachelor of Science in Cyber Science for the Fall 2026 academic year. This is Canada's only Cyber Science program, responding to the rising demand for professionals who can protect digital systems and navigate an evolving cyber threat landscape that affects organizations across every sector.

This program builds on TMU's experience in the cybersecurity field, following the launch of a Master of Cybersecurity program in April, which was designed to equip professionals with the skills needed to lead in this critical industry.

The new Cyber Science program, housed in the Computer Science department, integrates technology, business, law, ethics, policy, and human behaviour to address the challenges of cybersecurity and provide students with a comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity issues and solutions.

The remarkable program also offers experiential learning opportunities, where students have access to the Cyber Range at the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst, providing the unique chance to participate in mock cyber attacks.

"Competitor programs focus on either computer or business-oriented disciplines, while ours provides a comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity issues and solutions, enabling students to extend their learning into specialty cybersecurity roles, bridging gaps separating the technical, societal, and business aspects of cyberspace," said Dr. Marcus Santos, Computer Science professor and Executive Academic Director of Cyber Studies and Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst.

The Cyber Science program has a broader, interdisciplinary scope and a strong emphasis on understanding the human and societal dimensions of cyberspace compared to traditional cybersecurity programs that typically concentrate on the technical aspects of protecting digital assets.

Like Computer Science, which equips students early on with a strong foundation across core computing areas, Cyber Science also provides students with a solid grounding, but in the context of cybersecurity.

Graduates will be well-positioned for roles that require a broad, interdisciplinary understanding of cybersecurity. Example careers include: Cybersecurity Analyst, Cyber Risk Analyst/Manager, Security Policy and Compliance Specialist, Incident Response Specialist, Digital Forensics Specialist, Privacy Officer/Analyst.

Applications for the Fall 2026 intake are now open. For more information about the Bachelor of Science in Cyber Science and how to apply, please visit https://www.torontomu.ca/programs/undergraduate/cyber-science/.
