Once again York University proves it is one of the best comprehensive universities in Canada, placing in the top five in today's (Oct 15) Maclean's 2026 University Rankings.
York has consistently ranked in the top five for several consecutive years. In addition to snagging the fifth spot, York also came in fourth for reputation, third for student scholarships and bursaries, and fourth for social sciences and humanities grants.
"York's continued recognition as one of Canada's top five comprehensive universities is a testament to the passion of our entire community. This achievement reflects the strength of our academic programs, the impact of our research, and the commitment of our faculty, staff, and students to advancing positive change," says President and Vice-Chancellor Rhonda Lenton. "Thank you to our entire community for everything each of you do to make York a leader in higher education and a place where innovation, inclusion, and purpose thrive."
York also placed in the top 10 nationally for comprehensive universities for student and faculty awards, medical and science grants, student services, and faculty to student ratio.
Earlier this year, York took a top 40 spot in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, based on UN Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). It was also listed number one in Canada for Quality Education and second for Gender Equality, Reduced Inequities and Responsible Consumption and Production. It jumped hundreds of spots in the SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being with its new School of Medicine slated to open in 2028.
In addition, York excelled in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 with more than 15 subject areas ranked in the top 10 across the country.
With highly ranked student services, awards and programs, award winning faculty, a new School of Medicine on the horizon, and a growing number of real-world research and integrated learning opportunities available, York continues to be a global leader in post-secondary education.
