MACEWAN UNIVERSITY
University reappoints Dr. Christy Raymond as dean of the Faculty of Nursing

October 29, 2025

After a comprehensive review process, MacEwan University is pleased to announce the reappointment of Dr. Christy Raymond to a second term as dean of the Faculty of Nursing, through June 30, 2031.

Dr. Raymond has been a longstanding member of the MacEwan community, serving as a faculty member, department chair, acting associate dean, vice-provost and dean. Since her appointment as dean in 2021, she has led a period of strategic growth and renewal within the faculty while advancing the priorities of Teaching Greatness and stewarding the institution through the pressures of the pandemic. Her leadership ensured that nursing students retained access to in-person lab and clinical learning during campus shutdowns, protecting student progression and supporting Alberta's health workforce when it was most needed.

"Dr. Raymond's willingness to serve as dean for a second term was bolstered by the unprecedentedly enthusiastic support of the university community in its feedback to her reappointment materials," says Dr. Craig Monk, provost and vice-president, Academic. "Our peerless nursing program is the beating heart of Teaching Greatness at MacEwan, and it is clear that the faculty is in the capable hands of a transformative leader."

During her first term, the faculty restructured into four academic departments, welcomed more than two dozen new tenure-track faculty, established five new staff positions and implemented a Tactical and Operations plan that more closely aligns academic work with institutional strategy. Two major curriculum renewals were completed for the faculty's baccalaureate programs, and Dr. Raymond led two successful Targeted Enrolment Expansion submissions that secured more than $8 million in funding and more than 250 additional student seats. The faculty also launched the Bridge to Canadian Nursing certificate, with a further 140 funded seats each year.

As vice-provost (2024-25), Dr. Raymond helped strengthen simulation-based learning infrastructure in the Clinical Simulation Centre, modernizing lab operations, expanding staffing and advancing an AI-enabled equipment renewal. Research activity within the faculty has grown substantially during her tenure. The renewal of a partnership with the University of the West Indies has expanded student mobility and collaboration, and the introduction of equity admissions for Indigenous learners has increased pathways into the profession in response to community and system need.
