ALGOMA UNIVERSITY
Algoma University Strengthens Ties with German Partner Institutions

October 31, 2025

Algoma University's campus recently became a hub of international collaboration as it welcomed visiting professors and administrators from two partner universities in Germany, reinforcing the institution's commitment to global engagement and experiential learning.

The visits, which spanned late September and early October, brought together educators from Hochschule der Medien (HdM) Stuttgart University and the University of Vechta to share expertise, strengthen partnerships, and engage directly with Algoma's students and faculty.

From HdM Stuttgart, Dr. Martin Engstler and Ms. Messerschmidt participated in guest lectures, student discussions, and faculty sessions on curriculum innovation and collaborative research. Their visit builds on the momentum of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Exchange Agreement signed earlier this year, following an initial connection forged through Algoma's participation in HdM's AI Summer Games in June 2024.

Algoma also welcomed Professor Magnus Frampton from the University of Vechta, who connected with faculty and students from the School of Social Work and Visual Arts programs. Professor Frampton's visit builds on a relationship that already spans borders; he has previously taught Algoma students in Germany, both virtually and in person, in courses such as International Perspectives on Social Work and Facets of Self: Investigating Identity.

These collaborations open new pathways for Algoma University students to gain international experience in Germany. HdM Stuttgart and the University of Vechta offer English-taught exchange opportunities where students can pursue semester-long studies or short-term Blended Intensive Programs that combine online learning with an immersive week in Germany. Both institutions also provide virtual exchange and summer programming that connect learners from around the world.

"These visits highlight Algoma University's expanding international network and our commitment to providing students with opportunities to gain global perspectives," said Dawn White, Director of Career, International and Experiential Education. "Both partners offer high-quality programming complementary to Algoma's own offerings HdM Stuttgart with its strong industry linkages to companies such as Bosch and Porsche, and the University of Vechta for its interdisciplinary and international approach to social work."For more information, please visit Algoma University's International Affairs website.
