TMU leaders and community members among those honoured in Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women

On October 30, Roberta Iannacito-Provenzano, TMU provost and vice-president, academic, and Teresa Chan, dean and vice-president, medical affairs, were announced to the 2025 Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award Winners list.

The prestigious award from the Women's Executive Network (WXN) honours women across Canada for being bold leaders and trailblazers across private, public and not-for-profit sectors.  

Iannacito-Provenzano and Chan join an elite group of leaders celebrated for their impact, innovation and influence.

"This prestigious recognition reflects the values at the heart of TMU - bold leadership, innovation and a commitment to equity and inclusion," said Mohamed Lachemi, president and vice-chancellor. "These recipients exemplify the transformative impact of leaders who are dedicated to breaking barriers and creating positive change in our community."

Iannacito-Provenzano's executive leadership

Iannacito-Provenzano was recognized in the CN Executive Leaders category, an award that honours women who exemplify great leadership in their organizations and communities while building confidence, championing equality and breaking down barriers for the next generation of leaders.

"I've always believed that leadership is about listening, learning, and helping others do their best work," Iannacito-Provenzano said. "I'm lucky to work alongside so many people who challenge and motivate me to do the same."

As provost and vice-president, academic, she shapes the academic vision and direction at TMU, championing innovation and inclusion in education that transforms lives.

Chan's trailblazing leadership in medicine

Chan was honoured in the Professionals category, which recognizes women who are leaders within their organizations and affect real change and progress in their fields through new innovations, laws and policy.

"This award is a reflection of the incredible community of colleagues, mentors and students who inspire me every day," Chan said. "I'm grateful to lead with purpose and to advance equity, inclusion and compassion in medicine and beyond."

As founding dean, Chan and the school of medicine have focused on recruiting and training physicians who will provide compassionate, culturally respectful care to underserved communities across the GTA, while establishing a new model for medical education in Canada.

Other TMU community members honoured

Three other TMU community members were honoured as well, including:

  • Lori-Ann Beausoleil, 2002 - 2008 Board of Governors member, and Ted Rogers School of Management Dean's Advisory Council member and Advisory Council Emeritus Member
  • Lindsay Mattick, Journalism 03 
  • Lori Wilkinson, 2020 - 2023 CERC Migration Board member

WXN's Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards is Canada's most recognized honour for the highest achieving female leaders in business, arts, food, community, entrepreneurship, not-for-profit ventures, skilled trades, science, service, philanthropy and so much more. 

All recipients will be recognized at the Top 100 Awards Gala on November 27 at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto.
