The University of Guelph has once again ranked sixth among Canada's 15 comprehensive universities, a reflection of its academic excellence, robust research programming and campus community.
The ranking, from Maclean's 2026 evaluation of the country's post-secondary institutions, is based on a five-metric system that includes students, faculty, resources, student support and reputation.
U of G's unique ability to attract research funding was recognized, ranking number one for total research dollars among comprehensive universities in Canada, highlighting programs like Food from Thought.
For medical/science research grants, U of G jumped into the top five, up from the top ten last year.
The University ranked second for its library collection and holdings, and in the top five for faculty whose prestigious national awards include the Killam Prize, Canada Council for the Arts' Molson Prize, Steacie Prize for Natural Sciences, the Royal Society of Canada awards and 3M Teaching Fellowships.
U of G student services rose to the number seven ranking, up from the number nine ranking last year.
As part of its university guide coverage, Maclean's highlighted U of G's expertise in food, the environment and communities with nods to the Arrell Food Institute, innovative arts programming bolstered by the newly renovated Arts Research Centre (ARC) and a campus where mature oaks and century-old buildings create an intimate and welcoming environment.
Maclean's quantifies universities in the comprehensive category as those with a significant degree of research activity and a wide range of programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including professional degrees.
