Algoma University students revived the Trick or Eatz fundraiser, bringing together 35 students, staff, and local residents on Halloween, collecting $725 in food and monetary donations to support two vital causes: the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) Student Refugee Program and the Algoma University Students' Union (AUSU) Food Pantry.
In addition to collecting donations that will support over 400 students, volunteers also distributed educational materials to spark conversations about food insecurity and the global refugee crisis. The evening concluded with a campus celebration featuring pizza, music, and reflections from participants who expressed pride in supporting a cause that strengthens both Algoma University and the broader Sault Ste. Marie community.
"The Algoma University Students' Union Food Pantry is very grateful for our community and volunteers who came forward to help us combat food insecurity," shared Meshwa Kapatel, AUSU Food Pantry Coordinator. "The donations we received helped us provide groceries for 400+ students. We can't wait to do it again next year. It was such a successful and memorable night for many."
