UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH
U of G Joins Canada's Largest STEM Scholarship Program

November 27, 2025

The University of Guelph is joining Schulich Leader Scholarships, Canada's most prestigious science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) scholarship program, providing full tuition for entrepreneurial-minded students who demonstrate leadership, charisma and creativity, with strong consideration for financial need.

Nominated high school graduates planning to pursue an eligible STEM program at U of G will now be able to apply for a scholarship valued at $120,000 for an engineering degree, or $100,000 for a science, technology or math degree.

All eligible STEM programs can be found on the Schulich Leader Scholarships website.

Every high school in Canada can nominate one student per academic year to be in the running for the award. Nominations are accepted from September through Jan. 28, 2026. Nominated students must then submit an online scholarship application, due Feb. 18, 2026.

Each year, out of a pool of 350,000 potential candidates across Canada, more than 1,400 students are nominated, of which 100 receive this celebrated award.

Judy Schulich, president of The Schulich Foundation, expressed excitement about including U of G as a partner university in their flagship scholarship program.

"University of Guelph attracts some of Canada's most competitive STEM students aspiring towards careers in tech, engineering, entrepreneurship and applied research. This scholarship will help recruit some of our nation's top innovators to the University."

Dr. Rene Van Acker, U of G president and vice-chancellor, says that joining Schulich Leader Scholarships reflects the University's excellence in interdisciplinary education.

"Schulich Leader Scholarships recognize the very best of Canada's future innovators," says Van Acker. "Taking part in this prestigious program reflects the University of Guelph's strength in STEM education and our commitment to developing entrepreneurial-minded, critical thinkers who see possibility where others see challenge. Students choose U of G because our interdisciplinary approach to learning builds on that mindset, empowering students to apply their knowledge and create solutions that improve life in Canada and beyond."

Launched in fall 2011, Schulich Leader Scholarships support the next generation of technology innovators to elevate Canada's competitiveness in the global market. In addition to the financial award, students join an elite network of more than 1,600 recipients who receive enrichment opportunities throughout the year.
