Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) officially joined the Canadian Military, Veteran and Family Connected Campus Consortium (CMVF3C) during a signing ceremony held on November 28. The event brought together Canadian Armed Forces representatives, base personnel, CUE staff, students, and alumni with military connections to celebrate a shared commitment to military-connected learners and their families.
CUE has a long-standing military tradition, including its own university platoon, and this partnership builds on decades of supporting students with service backgrounds.
"Our military-connected students bring resilience, leadership, and unique perspectives that enrich every classroom," said Dr. Tim Loreman, President of CUE. "Joining CMVF3C is a natural step to strengthen the supports they already enjoy and ensure every student who has served feels at home here."
"CUE has a proud and enduring legacy of connection with the military community," added Dr. Tim Cusack, Dean of Education and Commanding Officer of HMCS NONSUCH / NCSM NONSUCH. "This partnership is more than a collaboration it's commitment to those who have served, ensuring they have the guidance, mentorship, and understanding needed to succeed in university life."
Joe Bremner, a current CUE student and former CAF member, reflected on his experience transitioning to academic life. "Shifting from military culture to academia has some unique challenges," he said. "CUE was truly welcoming; everyone here from students to staff helped me feel part of a community. The small class sizes gave me plenty of one-on-one time with the professors, further enhancing my university experience. Concordia joining the consortium (CMVF3C) will make it even easier for student-soldiers like me to thrive."
As a student-focused university, CUE provides support for military-connected students, including academic accommodations, peer mentorship, and campus awareness initiatives. These services address challenges such as frequent relocations, shifting academic expectations, and the emotional impact of military life.
Through this partnership with the CMVF3C, CUE joins a national network of post secondary institutions dedicated to improving access and outcomes for Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans, and their families while celebrating the unique contributions they bring to campus life.
