I am pleased to share that Shawn Baxter will be joining the University of Calgary as our new Associate Vice-President (Strategy, Enterprise and Commercial) effective Monday, Dec. 15.

This new role is an important addition to our leadership team, created to strengthen how the university manages its financial, business and partnership activities. The Associate Vice-President (Strategy, Enterprise and Commercial) will lead work related to strategic finance, real estate, procurement, and commercial and ancillary activities. This role supports our long-term financial sustainability by ensuring we use our resources wisely, develop new revenue opportunities, and build strong partnerships that benefit our students, faculty, staff and the wider community.
Shawn brings two decades of experience in strategic and operational roles, most recently with LNG Canada and Shell. He has a strong record of driving growth and building high-impact partnerships. He is known for bringing people together, using data to guide decisions, and leading initiatives that connect technology, processes and teams.
He has also worked closely with joint-venture partners and Indigenous and rural communities to advance shared goals. His expertise will be invaluable as we continue to advance the university's strategy.
Shawn holds Executive MBAs from Cornell and Queen's universities and is a registered Professional Engineer.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and making the most of the outdoors, whether camping, biking, skiing, hiking or fishing.
