The life and legacy of Rachel MacFarlane, a 1995 StFX graduate and former university employee, will continue to inspire future generations through the newly established Rachel MacFarlane Memorial Bursary.
The bursary honours Ms. MacFarlane's tireless commitment to students and her deep dedication to the Antigonish community. Remembered for her energy, compassion, and generosity of spirit, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from StFX and later served the university in a variety of roles. Beyond campus, she was an active community volunteer, including serving as chair of the board of directors of the Affordable Housing Society.
The Rachel MacFarlane Memorial Bursary will be awarded annually to full-time StFX students in any program or year who demonstrate financial need and who might not otherwise be able to attend the university. Preference will be given to applicants who have shown a strong commitment to volunteerism and community service.
This endowed bursary is made possible through the generous donations of Ms. MacFarlane's family, friends, and colleagues. To learn more about the bursary or to make a contribution, please contact Cathy Fraser, StFX Development Officer, at cfraser@stfx.ca or call (902) 867-5017 or toll-free, 1-877-367-7839. The first bursary will be awarded in the 2026-27 academic year. Applications can be made to the Limited Bursary Program in September.
