FIRST NATIONS UNIVERSITY OF CANADA
Natalie Langan Named Finalist for Indigenous Resurgence in Action Award

January 28, 2026

First Nations University of Canada is proud to share that Natalie Langan has been nominated and selected as a finalist for the Indigenous Resurgence in Action category of the YWCA Women of Distinction Awards.

The Indigenous Resurgence in Action award honours a woman advancing Indigenous cultural resurgence and reconciliation in meaningful and lasting ways. The category recognizes leadership in areas such as language revitalization, cultural teachings, advocacy, and relationship-building that strengthen cultural identity and support communities in finding a new way forward.

Natalie's selection as a finalist reflects her long-standing commitment to Saulteaux language revitalization and community-based learning. Through her work, she has made language learning accessible to individuals and families by offering free Saulteaux language classes in both online and in-person formats. Her programs welcome learners of all ages and backgrounds and create culturally grounded spaces where language, identity, and connection are nurtured.

In addition to teaching, Natalie has developed and self-published a growing collection of Saulteaux language resources to support learners beyond the classroom. These include three levels of beginner Saulteaux booklets, beginner flashcards, and Saulteaux calendars for 2025 and 2026 tools designed to encourage daily language use and strengthen cultural continuity.

Natalie's work reflects the spirit of Indigenous resurgence in action reclaiming language, sharing knowledge, and building relationships that support healing, pride, and reconciliation through education.

The YWCA Women of Distinction Finalists Luncheon will be held on January 31, with the Awards Gala taking place on March 28, where award recipients will be announced. FNUniv congratulates Natalie on being named a finalist and thanks her for the meaningful contributions she continues to make in support of Indigenous language revitalization and cultural resurgence.
