CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY OF EDMONTON
CUE Launches Innovative Dual Degrees Program to Bridge the Business-Technology Gap

March 12, 2026

Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) is proud to announce the launch of a new dual degrees offering: the Bachelor of Management and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

This interdisciplinary program allows students to earn two distinct degrees in just five years, addressing the critical and growing demand for "bilingual" professionals who possess both high-level business leadership skills and deep technical expertise.

As digital transformation and artificial intelligence become primary drivers of organizational success, the traditional silos between IT departments and executive leadership are vanishing. CUE's new dual degrees offering prepares students for this reality, combining a comprehensive Bachelor of Management curriculum (including accounting, finance, HR, leadership, marketing) with a robust Bachelor of Science IT major (including software development, cybersecurity, and networking).

"Early in my career, I chose to take IT and programming courses, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. It allowed me to bridge the gap between accountants and software developers, because I understood the language and mindset of both sides," said Dr. Sherif Elbarrad, Dean of the Faculty of Management at CUE. "Understanding the logic behind the systems we use every day fundamentally changed how I approached problem-solving and strategic planning. By offering this dual degrees program, we are giving our students that same technical foundation, ensuring they aren't just managing businesses, but actively shaping the technology that powers them."

The program is designed for ambitious students who want to stand apart in a crowded job market. While a standard four-year degree typically requires 120 credits, this dual-pathway requires 153 credits, allowing for the completion of both credentials in only one additional year of study.

"The career pathways this program opens are incredibly exciting," said Dr. Brett Buchanan, CUE Dean of Arts and Interim Dean of Science. "In today's rapidly changing landscape, IT professionals are increasingly being called upon to lead teams and drive corporate strategy. To succeed, they need more than just technical savvy -- they need the leadership and organizational skills that our management curriculum provides. We are developing the next generation of CTOs and tech entrepreneurs who can navigate both the server room and the boardroom with equal confidence."

Graduates of the program will be uniquely positioned to support Alberta's diversifying economy, serving as vital assets to sectors ranging from energy and finance to emerging tech startups and others.

Applications for the Bachelor of Management and Bachelor of Science in IT Dual Degrees program are now open for Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 study. For more information on program requirements and details, please visit concordia.ab.ca/dual-degree-management-science-it.
