MOUNT SAINT VINCENT UNIVERSITY
Feminist journal Atlantis receives $150,000 grant to advance open, inclusive scholarship

May 7, 2026

pioneering feminist journal housed at Mount Saint Vincent University has received a $150,000 grant from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council's (SSHRC) Aid to Scholarly Journals competition.

The competition builds Canadian research capacity and knowledge sharing by supporting the publication and open access dissemination of original research in social sciences and humanities.

The journal - Atlantis: Critical Studies in Gender, Culture and Social Justice - is widely recognized for having shaped feminist scholarship in Canada and beyond. Just this winter, it celebrated its 50th anniversary and the generations of passionate scholars, editors, and students who have amplified historically marginalized voices. The journal remains as vital today as it was 50 years ago.

As a Diamond Open Access journal, Atlantis contents are available without fees to readers or authors. The journal is hosted by the MSVU Library & Archives through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.

Dr. Tegan Zimmerman is the current editor of Atlantis and the Chair of the Alexa McDonough Institute for Women, Gender and Social Justice at MSVU.

Tegan emphasized the broader impact of the funding. "These funds enable the journal to remain at the forefront of gender studies research in Canada and to publish innovative work by both emerging and established scholars in the field, as well as creative writers and artists committed to social justice and social change," she said.

Congratulations, Tegan and colleagues!
