The Concordia community now has a new destination for information technology support right in the heart of the Sir George Williams Campus. The Hall IT Service Centre, located on the fourth floor of the Hall Building, brings accessible, in-person assistance closer to students, faculty and staff.
The centre is part of a broader renovation of the fourth floor, which is designed to feel more open and accessible. The new layout creates clearer pathways to help, and it improves coordination between frontline and technical teams, with the goal of making IT services easier to navigate.
Meeting Concordians where they are
Downtown is one of Concordia's busiest environments, where thousands of students, faculty and staff rely daily on digital tools, classrooms, networks and support services to teach, research and collaborate.
For Katie Gilkes, director of client experience with IITS, locating IT support at the centre of that activity was a deliberate choice.
"The new Hall IT Service Centre was designed around a very simple idea: support should exist where people actually learn, teach and work," said Gilkes. "Ultimately, it's about bringing technology support closer to the people we serve, not just physically, but operationally and philosophically as well."
"The vision was to place the Centre in a highly visible, accessible location that aligns with the daily flow of our community," added David D'Arcangelo, senior director of project management. He led the Facilities Management team responsible for the project.
"The design prioritizes openness, efficiency and approachability to ensure that students, faculty and staff can easily connect with support."
A shift in approach
The Centre's opening also reflects a shift in how IITS approaches frontline support. The team is moving toward a model that is more visible, responsive and attuned to how people actually use and access technology on campus.
From classroom and research technologies to key systems and everyday user support, IITS provides the infrastructure and services that keep Concordia connected and running smoothly.
