On June 22, the University of Winnipeg's Board of Regents approved a balanced budget of $180.7 million for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
This budget reflects an increase of the University's operating grant to $87.1 million, which was announced as part of the 2026 provincial budget on March 24, 2026. This includes a 2% operating increase, funding for the new Anishinaabemowin Language Immersion program, and additional support for programming and to address staffing and inflationary cost pressures. UWinnipeg is also receiving $2.5 million from the Province for deferred maintenance projects.
The University's 2026-2027 budget accounts for tuition increases of 4% for domestic undergraduate students (was 3.5% for 2025-2026), 6.5% for international undergraduate students (was 7% for 2025-2026), and 4% for graduate students. The University is also beginning a three-year process to harmonize international student tuition rates for courses within faculties, gradually phasing out a low rate' for some courses. This same process was begun for domestic students last year and will be completed in 2027. For all students, UWinnipeg's tuition and fees remain among the lowest in Canada.
This budget positions UWinnipeg to continue delivering high-quality education, supporting student success, and contributing to a stronger Manitoba. The University is grateful to its faculty, staff, students, alumni, supporters, and government partners for their ongoing contributions to this institution and the communities it serves.
