Edmonton Transit Service and MacEwan University are partnering on an LRT safety awareness campaign to remind pedestrians to "wait behind the gate" when the crossing arms are down and lights are flashing.
Students heading to MacEwan Station may see a train display at the university exit closest to the LRT station, and new signage reminding everyone to pay attention and stay safe.
The two-week pilot campaign starts March 26 and will be evaluated to determine how effectively it encourages safe behaviour around LRT crossings. Information gleaned from this pilot project will be used to develop a more robust safety awareness campaign for other high-use LRT pedestrian crossing locations.
It's important to always pay attention near LRT tracks, look in both directions before crossing, and obey the safety signals.
