Two emerging artists have received a major seal of approval: an award that could change the course of their careers in contemporary art. Concordia University student Frédérique Laliberté and Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) student Émilie Serri are this year's winners of Fellowships from the Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Family Foundation.
With a value of $60,500 each, the Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Fellowships in Contemporary Art offer recipients the recognition and means that are essential to the development of their work and the advancement of their creative research, as they transition from an academic environment to the professional world. Since 2010, these fellowships have been awarded annually to two graduating students - one from UQAM and one from Concordia - in a Master's or PhD program in Media or Visual Arts.
"The support makes all the difference for these emerging artists by facilitating their transition to the next stage of their careers," noted Claudine Bronfman, co-chair, Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Family Foundation.
