On Friday, May 15, 2020, Ambrose will be hosting the first virtual university convocation ceremonies in Calgary.
Ambrose will be hosting three ceremonies; undergraduate, seminary, and education. The virtual ceremony consists of many of the traditional convocation elements including the valedictory address, commencement speakers, and most importantly, conferring of the degrees. In addition to the traditional elements, the online ceremony will include a greeting from the Alberta Minister of Advanced Education as well as other dignitaries.
Ahead of the convocation ceremonies, a "grad in a box" was delivered to graduates which contained their parchment, convocation program, cap and tassel, and a gift from the alumni department.
Ambrose plans to host an in-person celebration in November, pending physical distancing measures in place at that time.
Quotes:
"Convocation is a significant milestone for all learners. Although we cannot currently gather in-person to commemorate this achievement, it is important that we still celebrate this occasion recognizing that our students will be moving on to the next chapter of their lives. We are very proud of the resilience our graduating students have shown in completing their studies during this unprecedented time "
Gordon T. Smith, PhD, President, Ambrose University
"Although it would've been great to gather together and celebrate in person, I know we're all so thankful to have an opportunity to recognize our accomplishments while they're still fresh. I look forward to celebrating in November when we can all be together in the meantime, the online ceremony will allow us to commemorate this milestone as safely as possible."Madison McBlain, Undergraduate Valedictorian
