Thompson Rivers University (TRU) has signed an agreement with the American University of Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) to provide TRU students with a unique opportunity to gain direct entry into AUC's medical program.
Canadian medical schools are extremely competitive with an increasing demand from our health care system. This agreement provides graduates from TRU's Science program another opportunity to directly access medical school. Graduates of AUC have the option to write the appropriate exam to practice medicine in the United States, Canada or the United Kingdom.
"This is a pathway program for TRU graduates of the Bachelor of Science degree to have direct entry into a Caribbean medical school with a campus in the UK or in Sint Maarten" said Laurie Robinson, director, International Partnerships and Business Development at TRU. "This is an excellent opportunity for Canadian students who are eager to attend medical school and begin at TRU."
Academically accepted Canadian students receive scholarship benefits if they are accepted into the program. First, there is the International/Canadian Student Scholarship, a US $80,000 one-time award distributed across semesters 1 to 10. Then, there is the TRU Partner Scholarship, a one-time US $7,500 award for the first semester of enrolment at AUC. Finally, accepted students are eligible for a first semester housing credit.

Creating accessible pathways for deserving students is part of AUC's mission to educate tomorrow's physicians," said American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine Provost, Dr. Heidi Chumley.

"This agreement is another way TRU demonstrates its commitment to student success through committed pathways for students to professional schools."
