YUFA Collective Bargaining Update #8 - January 31, 2022

Over the course of bargaining, the University and YUFA have tabled a number of important proposals for discussion.

At the last meeting of January 25, 2022, the University was pleased to receive a revised set of YUFA proposals, which included the withdrawal of some items, and also to provide YUFA with the University's third revised comprehensive package of equity proposals. Some key items include:

  • The continuation of a dedicated hiring program for Indigenous Faculty and Librarians and the creation of a similar program in the collective agreement for Black Faculty and Librarians.
  • The addition of 2SLGBTQ+ as an equity group for hiring procedures.
  • Adding "service to the University in support of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives and priorities" to the list of possible service activities to enhance and highlight such activities and promote more equitable distribution of service workload and workload more generally.

Throughout negotiations, much of the discussion has focused on equity, an important issue to both parties. The University remains committed to achieving improvements to collective agreement provisions pertaining to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and looks forward to YUFA's response to our most recent proposals on this important topic, and to building on the movement from the parties' last exchange of proposals.
