This highly technical program teaches students financial theory, methods of engineering, tools of mathematics and practice of programming. Now the program has become a partner to the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation and students will be on an accelerated FRM pathway.
"This designation will make students more competitive and helps them build successful careers in asset management, risk management, capital market and quantitative finance in the ever-changing financial industry," said Professor Melanie Cao, program director, Master of Finance.
The FRM is the leading certification for risk managers. The increasing globalization and application of high technology in the financial sector have created the need for recognized qualifications for finance professionals. The Schulich master's degree in finance is a "must-have" degree for people pursuing a career in asset management, capital markets and risk management.
"We are very pleased to welcome the Financial Engineering program to the GARP Partnership for Risk Education. This program provides students with a strong theoretical background as well as skills highly applicable in today's competitive job market," said William H. May, senior vice-president, Global Head of Certifications and Educational Programs, GARP. "Upon completing this program, students should be well-positioned to pursue the FRM designation and ready for the global risk management profession."
