MOUNT SAINT VINCENT UNIVERSITY
Enterprise Holdings establishes award for Indigenous business and tourism students at MSVU

December 12, 2022

Enterprise Holdings has established an award for Indigenous students in their final year of study in either Mount Saint Vincent University's Bachelor of Business Administration or Tourism and Hospitality Management programs. The Enterprise Holdings Indigenous Student Award will provide financial assistance and recognize the achievements of a graduating Indigenous student.

Paulette Cormier-MacBurnie is an Assistant Professor and Tourism Program Coordinator in the Department of Business Administration and Tourism & Hospitality Management at MSVU. She describes Enterprise Holdings as a long-time supporter of the university: "We are sincerely grateful for their support of Indigenous business and tourism students at MSVU through this generous gift, and for the tremendous commitment they've long shown to supporting the next generation of business and tourism professionals."

"Financial supports like the award being established by Enterprise Holdings are helping to remove barriers to post-secondary education and create opportunity for Indigenous students," said Patrick Small Legs-Nagge, Special Advisor on Indigenous Affairs at MSVU. "The transition from student to professional is a significant one and this award will help ease the stress of that transition for Indigenous students."

Enterprise Rent-A-Car is an internationally recognized brand with thousands of locations throughout the world.

"Since its founding in 1957, Enterprise has been dedicated to strengthening the communities where customers and employees live and work, supporting programs, practices, and partners that improve the quality of life in the places they call home," said Pete Halliday, Group Human Resources Manager, Atlantic Canada, Enterprise Holdings. "Working with MSVU, we're pleased to be supporting future generations of business and tourism professionals, and in particular helping to create opportunity for Indigenous students and other underserved groups."

Enterprise Holdings has been a partner of MSVU's Business, Tourism & Hospitality Management Programs for many years as an employer of cooperative education students and graduates, sponsor of the annual Leaders and Learners conference, and supporter of Business and Tourism & Hospitality Management students in Caritas Day activities. Leaders from Enterprise Holdings have also lent their expertise in the classroom as guest speakers on a range of tourism industry topics, human resources topics, career planning, and more.

Enterprise Holdings established the new endowed award at MSVU through an initial $10,000 donation. The first award will be given to a student in 2023. Applications will open in the winter term.
