Lethbridge Polytechnic wins industry awards for communications, storytelling efforts

November 15, 2024

Lethbridge Polytechnic's Marketing, Communications, Alumni and Engagement (MCAE) team has been recognized for its work in 2023, with a total of 19 industry awards on the provincial, regional and international level.

The team received two awards from the international Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Circle of Excellence competition; four awards from the regional CASE District VIII competition (consisting of submissions from the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada); and 13 awards, including two gold, from the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association.

"These awards highlight how storytelling can inspire and connect our community with prospective students to bring the polytechnic spirit to life," says Leeanne Conrad, director, Marketing, Communications, Alumni and Engagement. "This success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the MCAE team, whose commitment to meaningful communication resonates far beyond our campus."

CASE CIRCLE OF EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2024

  • GOLD: Communications - Communications Initiatives (10-25 staff): Media Training Course. This online course is available on demand to employees and students who want to learn how to prepare for a media interview, what to expect and why it's important.
    • Comments from judges: This course has a great concept and self-paced online format. Judges loved its creativity and scalability, making it a model for other institutions. It's a super creative approach to providing services, allowing the campus community to learn at their own pace. This sustainable model is a great way to support students and staff, and its flexibility is a major advantage. It showcases innovative thinking and effective execution.
  • GOLD: Magazines - Alumni/General Interest (two-year institutions): Spring 23, an issue focused on food, and Fall 23, which showcased stories of the buffalo, Wider Horizons.
    • Comments from judges: The magazine's layout was effectively broken up by the use of varied font sizes and colour blocks, which guided the reader's gaze. The transition between themes was smoothly facilitated by the colour changes in each section. The inclusion of full-page images balanced the extensive text, while smaller alumni photos provided focal points to advance the reader's attention. A comprehensive portrayal of both students and alumni was achieved, offering insights into the student experience, pre- and post-graduation. Additionally, links and email addresses enabled readers to connect further with compelling narratives.
