NAIT has been recognized as one of Canada's top research colleges and polytechnics, ranking 3rd on Canada's Top 50 Research Colleges list for 2024. The annual ranking by Canada's Innovation Leaders tracks research income in the form of grants, contracts and contributions from partner organizations.
Moving up 5 spots, NAIT received $17.5 million in research funding for the 2023 fiscal year, which also has the polytechnic leading the pack in the research income category. They also ranked 2nd for research intensity, meaning the amount of research income per researcher, and 4th among Canadian institutions for the number of research partnerships (127). These successes come primarily from NAIT's Applied Research department whose research focuses on improving the environmental sustainability of Canada's industries.
The rankings reflect the collaborative efforts between NAIT Applied Research, industry and community partners using innovative approaches to advance clean technology and sustainable development.
From tackling post-consumer plastics to enhance a circular plastic economy, to revitalizing boreal forests following industrial activities, and working alongside Indigenous communities to lead local environmental monitoring projects, NAIT Applied Research and their partners are applying their expertise to make positive impacts on communities, industry sectors, the environment and the economy.
