Olds College of Agriculture & Technology is enhancing its Animal Health programs, offering students more flexibility and credentialing opportunities starting in September 2025.
All three Animal Health programs Veterinary Technician Assistant (VTA), Veterinary Medical Receptionist (VMR) and Veterinary Technician (VT) Diploma will now have three intakes per year (fall, winter and spring). This change increases enrolment capacity while giving students from each program the opportunity to work together, fostering a collaborative learning environment across all three programs.
The following program pathways will also be adjusted:
- Graduates of the four-month VTA program will be able to transition directly into the second term of VMR, allowing them to complete both programs in two terms instead of three terms. Former graduates from our VTA program may also be eligible.
- After completing VMR, graduates can enter the workforce or apply for admission to the VT diploma through the alternate admission pathway. The VT diploma program consists of four semesters on campus plus a six-week practicum.
Olds College also signed an articulation agreement with St. Matthew's University, Cayman Islands, creating a direct pathway for students pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
"These program enhancements reflect our commitment to providing students with flexible, high-quality education that aligns with industry needs," says Amos Ngai, Dean of the School of Life Science and Business. "By expanding intakes, streamlining pathways and strengthening career opportunities, we are equipping future animal health professionals with the skills and experience needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving field."
