The Cochrane and Area Family Resource Network (FRN), in partnership with Staples and the Kiwanis Club of Cochrane, is proud to announce the return of the much-anticipated Backpack Program. This vital initiative helps ease the financial burden many families face at the start of the school year by providing essential school supplies for students from kindergarten to grade 12.
With rising living costs, more families are struggling to manage back-to-school expenses. The Backpack Program plays a key role in ensuring all students have what they need to succeed promoting confidence, inclusion, and a strong start to the academic year.
"A growing number of families in our community are facing financial challenges," says Kim Krawec, Manager of FCSS, Town of Cochrane. "Equipping students with backpacks and supplies helps remove a significant barrier. This program wouldn't be possible without the generosity of our local partners and donors we're incredibly grateful to Staples, the Kiwanis Club of Cochrane, and all who continue to support this initiative."
Applications for the 2025 program must be completed in person and will be accepted at the Family Resource Network between August 11 to September 26, while supplies last. To access the program, families must show proof of enrollment in a Cochrane or West Rocky View County school and provide either a level 1 Cochrane Connect Card or GST Notice of Credit listing dependent children. Those without documentation can contact the FRN to book an appointment with a Resource Worker for support.
Monetary donations are welcome and can be dropped off at Staples (40 Quarry St E) or the FRN (127 First Ave W). All donations go directly to supporting this important program and ensuring local students are set up for success.
