GRANDE PRAIRIE PUBLIC SCHOOL DIVISION
Grande Prairie Composite High School Achieves Silver LEED Certification

February 27, 2026

The Grande Prairie Public School Division (GPPSD) is pleased to announce that Grande Prairie Composite High School has earned Silver Certification under LEED v4 BD+C: Schools, a designation recognizing leadership in sustainable and energy-efficient design.

The certification, awarded by the Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC), reflects GPPSD's ongoing commitment to responsible construction practices, environmental stewardship, and creating facilities that support high-quality learning. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a globally recognized green building rating system that promotes environmentally responsible design, construction and operational practices.

Silver Certification under the Building Design and Construction (BD+C) for Schools category confirms that Grande Prairie Composite High School meets rigorous standards for sustainable site development, water conservation, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

"Achieving LEED Silver is a testament to the forward-thinking design of this school," said Ola Oladele, Associate Superintendent. "This isn't just about a plaque on the wall, it's about providing our students and staff with a healthy and inspiring space to teach and learn."

Major Expansion Project Moving Forward at Grande Prairie Composite High School

Following the previous announcement of provincial design funding, GPPSD is also advancing the next phase of the permanent addition at Grande Prairie Composite High School. The Division has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to engage an architectural firm to provide professional design and consulting services for the project.

The expansion responds directly to significant enrolment growth in the community. Once complete, the new addition will create space for approximately 450 students, ensuring the school continues to meet the needs of a growing population while maintaining high standards for modern educational spaces.

"We are excited to take this next important step," said Ola Oladele, Associate Superintendent of Business Services. "We look forward to working with a design team that shares our vision for a facility that supports student success and serves as a source of pride for the community."
