Lethbridge School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Mackenzie Penner as vice-principal of Nicholas Sheran Elementary School, commencing the 2026/2027 school year.

Penner is a dedicated leader who prioritizes building welcoming, inclusive learning environments, where every student feels a strong sense of belonging.
She strives to bring a collaborative, student-centred approach to her new role at Nicholas Sheran.
"It is an honour to move into the role of vice principal at Nicholas Sheran Elementary School," said Penner. "I look forward to working alongside students, staff and families to support academic success, social-emotional development and meaningful partnerships that help all students grow and succeed."
Throughout her career, Penner has contributed to various school communities to plan inclusive learning opportunities, joyful school-wide events and supportive staff initiatives.
"I am committed to supporting the Nicholas Sheran community to further develop their student leadership, wellness and land-based learning opportunities," she said. "I am grateful for my experiences learning from colleagues across the Division, as it has strengthened my practice and expanded my perspective as an educator and leader."
Penner began her career with Lethbridge School Division in 2009, as part of a wellness pilot project. In the spring of 2011, Penner became a classroom teacher at Nicholas Sheran, a position she held until 2018. That year, she transitioned into the role of Elementary Resiliency teacher, and then to Lethbridge School Division as the Behaviour Support Team leader. Penner was excited to move back to Nicholas Sheran for the current school year, teaching Grade 4.
Penner holds a Master of Education from the University of Calgary in Inclusive Education and School Leadership, along with a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Lethbridge.
She has also attained her Alberta Leadership Quality Standard Certificate, along with a Level A Assessment Certificate and a Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachment (SIVA) Trainer Certificate.
