RDP Revolutionizes Recognition of Prior Learning & Transfer Credit Process

April 22, 2026

Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) has introduced a new model to create seamless pathways into diploma and degree programs, making it easier than ever for learners to receive credit for the education and experience they already have.

The new model will automatically recognize all credits and courses earned at any Alberta publicly funded post-secondary institution, for transfer into a relevant RDP program. Additionally, RDP will publish a Transfer Articulation Catalogue for out-of-province learners. And, effective July 1, 2026, RDP will offer at no-cost, a prior learning assessment and recognition for credit learners from any publicly funded post- secondary institution in Canada.

"We're deeply committed to making education more accessible and to reducing the time and cost it takes for learners to reach their career goals," says Lindsay Engel, Vice President, Academic & Student Experience. "This new approach opens clearer, more supportive pathways for learners to build on their previous education and experience -- helping them earn a new credential, step into a new career, or enter the workforce with confidence and momentum."

New learners with credit earned at another post-secondary institution, including a Red Seal Certificate, may be granted up to 50 per cent of the credits toward the completion of a certificate, diploma or degree program at RDP. These changes ensure that learners can accelerate their progress, reduce duplication of prior learning and enter their RDP program with a clear path forward.

Red Deer Polytechnic continues to enhance learner pathways and strengthen accessibility by removing barriers and supporting learners in building on the foundation they've already established.
