Northern Lakes College Board of Governors Renews President & CEO Dr. Glenn Mitchell's Contract for Five-Year Term

The Board of Governors of Northern Lakes College is pleased to announce the renewal of President & CEO Dr. Glenn Mitchell's contract for an additional five-year term, reaffirming its confidence in his leadership and vision as the College continues to grow, innovate, and expand opportunities for learners across northern Alberta.

Since assuming the role of President & CEO in 2020, Dr. Mitchell has guided the College through a period of significant transformation and advancement. Under his leadership, Northern Lakes College has strengthened its position as a leader in accessible, community-based post-secondary education, expanded educational pathways, enhanced partnerships, and increased opportunities for students throughout its service region.

The College's commitment to accessibility and innovation continues to create meaningful educational opportunities in rural, remote, Indigenous, and northern communities, ensuring learners can access high-quality programming while remaining connected to their families, communities, and careers.

"The Board of Governors is proud to renew Dr. Mitchell's contract and recognizes the tremendous impact of his leadership on the College, our students, and the communities we serve," said Barry Sharkawi, Chair of the Board of Governors. "His vision, dedication, and commitment to community-based education have helped position Northern Lakes College for continued success, and we look forward to working together as the College continues to grow and evolve."

Over the past several years, Northern Lakes College has experienced continued growth in student participation, programming, and community engagement. The College recently celebrated the largest graduating class in its history, reflecting the increasing demand for accessible post-secondary education and the positive impact Northern Lakes College continues to have throughout the region.

Dr. Mitchell's leadership has focused on expanding educational opportunities, strengthening workforce development initiatives, building strategic partnerships, and ensuring the College remains responsive to the unique needs of northern and remote communities. His commitment to the College's mission aligns closely with the aspirations of the learners, employers, Indigenous communities, municipalities, and industry partners that Northern Lakes College serves.
