BCIT provides support for veterans and military students

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) offers comprehensive training and professional development to its military members that can easily be transferred into post-secondary education and the civilian workforce. Some of these in-demand skills include leadership, critical thinking, judgement and decision making, in addition to specific hard-skill training tailored to individual occupations. Despite these valuable skills, when military members or veterans decide to transition to the civilian workforce, much of their prior training often goes unrecognized.

To address this issue, the BCIT Legion Military Skills Conversion program works to bridge the gap between skilled military members and veterans directly with education pathways that recognize their skills and attributes as they translate to the classroom and civilian workforce. While the program specializes in assessing military service toward advanced placement into BCIT programs, it goes beyond by offering educational support and career preparation services. The BCIT Legion program works to break down the misunderstandings and barriers faced by military members and veterans for their successful career moves.

Since the inception of the BCIT program in 2008, over 1,000 military members and veterans have accessed the services from across Canada.
