CAMPBELL RIVER SCHOOL DISTRICT
Ripple Rock Students Think Outside the Box with Cardboard Creations

April 17, 2025

From early March through mid-April, Ripple Rock Elementary students have been diving into a school-wide focus on curiosity and critical thinking. The highlight of this learning was a hands-on design challenge in the week leading up to spring break: creating a "masterpiece" out of cardboard.

To spark their imaginations, students watched the short film Caine's Arcade and read Not a Box. Inspired by these stories of creativity and innovation, every class spent time designing, testing and improving their cardboard creations.

On Friday, March 14, the school opened its doors for a celebration of student learning. From 12:45 to 1:45 p.m., the gym was filled with interactive arcade games, the library became a mini-golf course, and classrooms displayed sculptures and other imaginative builds - each one made from cardboard and brought to life by curious minds.

This creative challenge was a fun and meaningful way for students to develop problem-solving skills and explore new ways of thinking. Well done, Ripple Rock!
