A pair of individuals who have made a difference in the Selkirk College community have been recognized with Board of Governors Awards.
An annual tradition, this year's awards are being given to Distinguished Alumna Keiko Devaux and Honourary Diploma recipient Lydia Kania. Both were recognized at Selkirk College Convocation 2025 on May 22 and both will be added to a long list of recipients who have contributed to Selkirk College over the past five decades.
"Success for post-secondary students requires a foundation that's vast in both support and inspiration," says Amed Naqvi, incoming Board of Governors chair.
Raised in the Slocan Valley, Devaux is a global star in contemporary classical music. An alumna of the two-year Contemporary Music & Technology Program who graduated with Selkirk College's Class of 2002, her accomplishments over the last 20 years are vast.
The embodiment of a community builder, 100-year-old Kania is nicknamed the "Mayor of Passmore" for all her contributions and take-charge attitude. A Slocan Valley icon who has helped build a coalition of cultural groups, her friendship, guidance and advocacy have delivered tangible outcomes to her community.
