VSB is pleased to share the news that two existing vacancies have been filled with the appointments of Amy Van Vliet as director of instruction (DOI) educational services and Erica Gooyers as director of recruitment and staffing. These leaders bring valuable professional expertise that will support student success and contribute to employee services across the District. We are excited to welcome them as they join our VSB community.
Amy Van Vliet
Amy Van Vliet, Director of Instruction, Educational Services - Elementary
Amy is a dynamic educational leader and brings more than two decades of experience as a school-based administrator to her role of DOI. Most recently, she served as principal of Simon Fraser Elementary, where she championed inclusive education, critical thinking and innovative programming to support diverse learners. Prior to joining VSB, Amy was an educator with the Calgary Board of Education and the Golden Hills School Division. She holds a Master of Education from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta.
Bilingual in English and French, Amy is known for her strengths in communication, innovation and leadership development. Amy's appointment reflects VSB's ongoing commitment to excellence in education and leadership that supports the diverse needs of its school communities. Amy will support the elementary schools in the Hamber, Gladstone, Point Grey, Prince of Wales, Tupper and Vancouver Technical families of schools.
Amy will begin the transition to her new role mid-September.
Erica Gooyers
Erica Gooyers, Director - Employee Services
Erica brings nearly 20 years of progressive human resource experience in the public education sector including with the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, the University of Toronto and most recently as director, talent and strategic initiatives at Simon Fraser University (SFU).
Collaborative and people-centered, Erica is recognized for her leadership in recruitment and retention initiatives. As director of talent and strategic initiatives at SFU, she led major projects including workforce planning for SFU's new School of Medicine.
"We are very pleased to welcome Erica to VSB," says executive director of employee services, Michael Gray. "Erica's knowledge of the public education sector, combined with her experience in strategic planning and implementation of recruitment and retention initiatives will be invaluable for our district."
Erica will begin her role in October.
