Two members of the Capilano University community have been recognized this year by the BC Council on Admissions & Transfer (BCCAT) Transfer Awards for their leadership and long-standing contributions to transfer and articulation in British Columbia's post-secondary system.
Alejandra Mazariegos receives BCCAT Transfer & Articulation Service Award
Alejandra Mazariegos, transfer credit & graduation supervisor, is a recipient of this year's Transfer & Articulation Service Award, part of the annual BCCAT Transfer Awards.
Alejandra was recognized for her unwavering dedication to supporting learner access and mobility through her work at Capilano University. This award honours individuals who have made a meaningful and positive impact on the advancement of transfer and articulation in British Columbia's post-secondary system.
"Alejandra has played a significant role mentoring the transfer credit team," said Laureen Styles, interim president & vice-chancellor. "Her focus on working together to support a positive student experience has been instrumental in increasing the number of students transferring into the University."
Maggie Reagh awarded Franklin Gelin Lifetime Achievement Award
Retired English for Academic Purposes (EAP) faculty member and coordinator Maggie Reagh has been awarded the Franklin Gelin Lifetime Achievement Award, BCCAT's highest honour. The award recognizes her long-standing leadership in advancing transferable, credit-bearing EAP courses in B.C.
As co-chair of BCCAT's English as an Additional Language (EAL) Committee, Maggie helped lead a nearly two-decade-long effort to establish EAP-for-credit courses. Her work elevated the status of EAL instruction and improved pathways for students entering post-secondary programs. Her advocacy has validated students' academic efforts and enabled smoother transitions into post-secondary programs.
At CapU, her work led to the creation of English for Academic Success (EAS 100), a new three-credit, transferable course launching in Spring 2026.
"Maggie's longstanding leadership in advancing transferable EAP programming represents a significant contribution to the post-secondary system," said Laureen Styles. "Her work has strengthened student access, elevated the status of EAL instruction and created meaningful pathways for learners across the province."
Alejandra and Maggie will be formally recognized at a ceremony and reception on Monday, December 8 at the Paradox Hotel Vancouver, where they will join fellow award recipients, BCCAT Council members and colleagues in celebration.
